Narayaneeyam is a medieval sanskrit text comprising a summery study in poetic form of the Bhagavatha Purana. It was composed by Melpatthur Narayana Bhattathiri. Narayaneeyam is the story of Narayana. It narrates a series of episodes from the Bhagavatha Purana, choosing the most pious of the lot.
Bhattathiri who was crippled is believed to have penned this masterpiece sitting in the Guruvayur temple. Local legend says that on the hundredth day, he had the vision of the Lord and rendered a graphic description of this form, after which he was immediately cured of his disease.
